This is a charming antique print titled, "Forbidden Fruit". The print depicts a sweet little girl standing on her tiptoes reaching for a cluster of grapes. Her bonnet holds another cluster of grapes. The artist’s signature can be found under the little girl’s shoes reading, "M.M. Grimball". The artist’s full name is Margaret Ann Meta Morris Grimball (1810-1881). The lower left hand corner of print reads, "28 Copyright Gutmann & Gutmann, N.Y.". The frame is original to the piece. It is decorative, molded wood in original gold paint. The paper backing is missing. Old wire hanger. Original glass. This picture is in excellent original condition, except for a very minimal discoloration on the left side and lower right corner. It does not take away from the charming look of this piece. Circa 1910.
*** I’ve included below some interesting info about the artist, MARGARET ANN META MORRIS GRIMBALL:
"As an important part of art in the early twentieth century, the prints of Bessie Peace Gutmann and her fellow Gutmann and Gutmann contemporaries, Eda Doench and Meta Grimball and have been increasingly on the rise in popularity and in price."
