| This is a very large antique oil painting on canvas featuring a village scene, with the listed artist’s signature, "Frederick Duncan" signed in the lower left corner of canvas. The painting is full of very interesting details. There are people engaging in conversation, a yawning dog sitting on a log with a little boy and girl, and a handsome looking horse looking on. There are numerous chickens, even on the rooftops and sheep in the meadow. The landscape includes a village, far off water, and mountains. This painting is in excellent original condition, except for a tiny bit of paint loss by the squire’s head. The original fancy gesso frame is mostly in excellent original condition, except for some minor age-appropriate wear. Scuffing on the gesso. The frame retains the brass plaque with the artist’s name and the title, "The Squire and the Lady". There is also writing on the back of the canvas, which reads, "The Squire and the Widow by Frederick Duncan". This is a large and impressive antique oil painting from the late 19th century. |
